A new and life time event requires adequate preparation. Gorilla trekking is treasured as the top tourist attraction in Uganda. It’s fortunate that Uganda hosts one of the rare species of Gorillas known as Mountain Gorillas. Being rare makes gorilla safari adventures to be unique exclusive encounters in Uganda’ Bwindi Impenetrable National Park and Mgahinga Gorilla National Park.

In this article, we attempt to share with you a few things that will help you prepare emotionally, psychologically and physically for your gorilla trekking safari in Uganda. At this stage, we assume you have already chosen the National Park you opt to trek Gorillas, the tour company to customize your trip, accommodation to stay in, your packing list and the number of days to spend on the trip.

Below are the tips to consider in preparation for Gorilla trekking in Uganda:

Relax and empty yourself of Expectations

Yes, its’s normal to be covered with many expectations for new experience and new destinations. Uganda is known as “the pearl of Africa” because it’s a basket of many tourist attractions including Gorillas.

All the information and reviews you gathered were only to help you make the decision on where to go and choosing the service providers. Now that you have all those already in place, progress to something more important, emptying yourself to receive everything that comes with open hands so that you do not miss out the best of your trip for any reason.

Focus on things that are in your power

Gorilla tracking is always a scheduled trip; therefore, any changes in your itinerary might affect how the trip turns out. Waking late, car break down, food poisoning anything out of the ordinary might affect your trip. For this reason, you should not worry about the things that are out of your control but focus on those which are in your control. One is going to bed early enough so that you can wake up early enough. It can be a beat disgusting to have a wakeup call when you have just gone to bed.

If you are the kind that often gets food poisoning when you try out new meals, then carry your medication or avoid new meals. You can opt to stick to fruits and a few energy giving snacks till you are done with your gorilla trekking safari. It is a nasty experience to go gorilla trekking only to keep in need of the rules every after a few minutes.

Do some physicals

Gorilla trekking requires some level of fitness thus its wise to do some physical exercises before actual Gorilla trek.  In regard to physical fitness, we encourage gorilla trekkers to prepare their body for gorilla trekking at least a week in advance. You can prepare by doing early morning exercises or evening exercises by running or walking. This will help you not to be too exhausted after your gorilla trekking.

Prepare to pack your Gorilla safari equipment

Items to be used during Gorilla trekking like:

Waterproof hiking boots, long sleeved shirts or blouses, Sweater or Jacket, Scarp, Insect repellents, Energy giving snacks, Energy giving drinks, Long pants, First aid kit, Gloves.

We recommend all these items to be packed early enough to avoid the stress of reaching your chosen destination only to realize that you have forgotten your favorite jacket at home and other items.

Carry Your Own Water Bottle

For purposes of environmental conservation, it is highly recommended to carry a non-disposal water bottle. You can carry one, or buy one upon arrival. You can get drinking water from your hotel of residence. It will be very important to keep hydrated during your gorilla safari.
