This 10 Days Uganda Safari introduces you to Mgahinga trekking communities and primates. You will also experience several Ugandan mountains and the local culture of the mountain people. You cannot do one and leave the other this is a unique chance of experiencing the culture and mountain trekking in Uganda. Learn about what the Bafumbira people have to say about the three extinct volcanoes of Mgahinga national park and the Bakonzo people’s tales of their relationship with the Rwenzori range while you explore the possibility to scale its highest peaks.
DAY 1: In the morning welcome of the clients at the international airport of Entebbe. Drive pass by Lake Victoria shore to go to Kampala for overnight accommodation
DAY 2: After an early breakfast, drive to Kisoro. Lunch on the way. Dinner and overnight.
Day 3: Trekking on the 3 volcanoes of Mgahinga National Park begins. Mt. Sabinyo a.k.a. “old man’s teeth” (3669 m) offers 3 challenging peaks to climb. It takes a round trip to cover a height gain of 1300 meters. On the top of the 3rd peak you will be at the border between Rwanda, Congo and Uganda. Dinner and overnight at Traveler?s Rest Hotel.
Day 4:
Morning departure to climb Mt. Gahinga a.k.a. “small pile of stones” (3474 m) that takes its name from the small piles of stones found in the fields called “gahinga”. On the round-trip hikers will pass through pure Bamboo forests. Today trail has a height gain of 1100 meters.
Day 5: Early in the morning trekking on Mt. Muhavura a.k.a. “the guide” (4127 m) that provides some of the best views of the country. The hike takes 1700 meters of height difference. Dinner and relax evening at Kisoro.
Day 6: Morning drive to Kasese through Echuya forest. Lunch on the way. Dinner and overnight in the Mubuku glacier valley at Ruboni community camp
Day 7 Rwenzori/ Ruboni: Today, we shall explore the Bakonzo community experience in the Mubuku valley in the foothills of Rwenzori Mountains of the moon. We shall do the village or forest walk and explore the social life of the Bakonzo people. (BLD)
Day 8 Rwenzori – Kibale: Today after breakfast we shall head to Kibale national park via the creator lakes area. Optional, we may do the Toro kingdom cultural tour, Visit to Amabere caves near Fort Portal before we go for dinner and overnight in an accommodation near to or in the national park.
Day 9 Kibale: Early morning breakfast and report to kanyanchu Tourist Centre where the chimpanzee tracking begins from. Set out in the forest in search for man?s closest animal brothers the endangered chimpanzee! The chances of viewing the chimps are over 90% but it?s not a guarantee and this can take 4-6 hours. Other primates in the forest that you will encounter are the threatened Red-colobus monkey, the rare L?Hoest?s monkeys, the Red tailed monkeys, Blue monkey, Grey Cheeked mangabeys, velvet and many others not leaving out Butterflies. Return to your Lodging for lunch and in the afternoon you visit the Bigodi swamp eco-tourism site is amazing, as we encounter rare and beautiful flora and fauna.
Day 10 Kibale to Kampala or Entebbe: After an early breakfast, we head to Kampala via Mubende. On arrival in Kampala, we shall go to the crafts market to buy some of the items we were not able to get in the communities, and then connect to the airport for the flight.
