In whatever country you chose to track gorillas you will need a gorilla permit. Rwanda, Uganda and Congo are neighboring countries that have gorillas in Africa. it’s because the gorillas are only found in the wild you will need a gorilla permit to track gorillas in their wild and natural form.

You must have a gorilla permit to trek Uganda gorillas found in two National Parks of Bwindi Impenetrable National Park and Mgahinga Gorilla National Park all found in south western Uganda.

Gorilla permits can be obtained from Uganda Wildlife Authority Head Offices in Kampala on Kiira Road. From Monday to Saturday afternoon, UWA sells gorilla permits for all gorilla families in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park and Mgahinga.

The Uganda wild life authority and all authorities dealing in the wild give the tour operators the first hand chance before any person. Or you can get a gorilla permit at no extra cost through your travel agent or tour operators you deal with for a Uganda safari.

Getting a gorilla permit in Uganda is also no different from the Rwanda development board and Congo, payments are done their or bank. No cash payments on the ground for tourists.

Uganda has no more high and low seasons for gorilla permits at all. It is all year through the same coat of 700 dollars for gorilla tracking and 1500 dollars for gorilla habituation per person. Gorilla permits tend to be very scarce in some month,

Booking and gorilla permit in required in advance because you may be surprised if you are looking for a permit at the last minute. In Rwanda however Gorilla permits are always available hmmm though can also be scarce if they are done in Uganda.

Uganda Wildlife Authority allows advanced booking of up to two years as long as a deposit of 30% is made and the balance shall be paid 90 days to the tracking date. Late top up of 70% is not permitted but may be considered 7 days

Gorilla permits in Uganda are paid in dollars, euros and Uganda shillings only; the other currencies will come at the UWA office rate to shillings. In Rwanda and the DRCongo they are also the same terms to payment.

50% tracking fee may be refunded only if the visitor fails to track due to illness, this will be at recommendation of the Warden in Charge and this clause only applies to visitors who have already tracked Bwindi or Mgahinga.

Visitors who fail to track the gorillas as a result of their movement to the neighboring country shall receive a full refund on their permits. However, those who would have tracked the whole day and failed to view the gorillas for one reason or another will may not be refunded because this is wild so we expect the gorillas to be where they want to be.
