Bwindi and Mgahinga Park are home to over half the world’s 1063 mountain gorillas. They account for 25 habituated gorilla groups in Uganda that are available for public visit today. While in Bwindi and Mgahinga, expect to begin your trek with mountain gorillas from the sectors or regions such as Buhoma, Rushaga, Nkuringo, and Ruhija –if you are Bwindi. At Mgahinga, the focus is mainly the Ntebeko sector, an ideal location for you to begin your search for the Mgahinga’s Nyakagezi gorilla family.
Gorilla trekking in Bwindi or Mgahinga National Park is possible when you have a valid gorilla permit. The current gorilla permit in Uganda generally costs US Dollars 800 per person, and this is valid till the end of June. Mountain gorilla habituation (with departure from Agape Guesthouse)
Besides the standard gorilla treks, you can also engage in mountain gorilla habituation –a rare gorilla adventure which lets you spend more hours in the jungle with a group of mountain gorillas. With gorilla habituation, a permit costs US Dollars 1500 per person but you have up to 4 hours to observe mountain gorillas, learn how they behave, and taking pictures.
